Before the Zamboni by Arnold Vannest

I’ve lived in Milton my whole life. I used to work at the old Brown Street arena. I worked there for 40 years. Then I went to the Memorial Arena after that, then to the John Arena, and the Sports Centre too; I’ve worked at them all. We used to use the old flood carts to flood the ice with. We’d have six guys on the scrapers and two on the flood carts, that’s one thing I really liked. I know every part of this town. It’s changed a lot and it’s really changing too. There are 400 homes on our old farm and a big apartment too. I used to drive way up Highway 25, but our farm’s all gone now.

They put a big condominium on Main Street too, which can be good for the town too.
